The research and practice with spaces into places is broader in approach because it has the aim of encouraging people of all ages to explore spaces and places in the built environment and natural environment rather than focusing on the response of young children as was the case with his earlier work. The approach of making spaces into places is a graphic and sculptural approach; a creative process in which we use photography, drawing, printmaking and sculpture to explore selected spaces in the local built and natural environments. The spaces that we focus on are selected and explored in ways that reinforce ‘” the sense of place “ of such locations. In some cases, where funding is available, the outcomes of this work could be implemented and maintained over time.

Recent medical research has shown how such a creative involvement in the process of ‘place making’ improves the mental and physical health of the people involved as they gain a greater sense of wellbeing and a feeling of belonging to “ the places “ they have helped to create and maintain .
